As a French expatriate who moved to Copenhagen eight years ago with my Spanish husband, I carry three homes within me: western Bretagne, with its salt wind and shifting tides; Andalucía’s terracotta earth and olive groves; and the muted expanses of Denmark, where sea and field quietly meet.

These places shape my watercolour landscapes, creating a personal atlas in colours, textures, and sensations.

(BE)Longing brings together twenty-one watercolour landscapes, seven from each homeland, into a three-part composition.

Bretagne’s blues carry the tang of salt and wind; Andalucía’s terracotta and ochre radiate the warmth of memory; Denmark’s muted greens and greys speak of quiet days by sea and field.

Individually, they tell the story of a single place; together, these twenty-one paintings form a three-part composition where contrasts meet and affinities echo, presenting a geography of the heart, charted in pigment and paper, where each place is both a return and a departure, forming a continuous terrain where contrasts meet and affinities echo.

This is Clara Stewart’s map of the heart, charted in pigment and paper, where each place is both a return and a departure.

This serie has been exhibited at Kyst Gallery in Dragør, Denmark.
